Recently I visited Norderney for a few days. On that isle in the North Sea there is a fine 9 hole course which has been built in the twenties of the 20. century. It is one of the oldest courses in Germany.
In the beginning only three holes where available for the players, but in the meantime at least nine are in place. Long story short: It is great fun to drive the white ball through the dunes here!
You can hardly find any golf course in Germany which is more natural and which has more links character than this. Budersand on Sylt certainly has a higher degree of sheer quality in terms of maintenance and course design and for sure a lesser population of rabbits which hold the course of Norderney tightly in their paws. But if you are seeking the feeling of a Scottish links in Germany, Norderney seems to me the better place. Overall, it just feels more relaxed and original to tee it up here.
Of course, this is a question of personal preference. But certainly, I tested the concept of cycgo on Norderney for the very first time. To the course on a bike. With golf clubs. The test result was very clear: To carry the clubs on my back is not an option. Even when it has only been a couple of kilometres from the hotel to the course and I carried only a reduced set of clubs, it was very, very uncomfortable. But to be honest, it has never been the concept of cycgo to do so. We will see how well the option with packing sacks will cope with the day to day demands.
